Taakra- A Digestive Tonic

Picture
Taakra is a delicious yogurt drink that is highly beneficial for your GI tract and easy to make. You can have it with your meals or in place of meals if you are trying to re-ignite your digestive fire. It helps restore the natural flora in your gut, and acts like a digestive regulator.  Did you know that yogurt by itself is actually heating and heavy in nature? When we add water the yogurt and churn or shake it vigorously we add lightness to the yogurt and it becomes more digestible. Hence, Taakra is a great way for us to receive the benefits of yogurt without the heat and  heaviness. Taakra improves the health of the colon and helps with IBS, IBD, diarrhea and constipation. It has been said that Takra is an anti-depressant as well, so drink up!

Ingredients:
  • 1 part Organic Plain Whole Milk Yogurt (room temperature)
  • 3 parts water (room temperature)

Directions
Typically taakra is made using a whisk or a wooden churning device, but I find it much easier and just as effective to shake the taakra in a glass jar with a lid.

1. Scoop 1/4 cup yogurt into the jar. Close the lid and shake vigorously for about a minute.
2. Add 3/4 cup of room temperature water and shake again for another minute until frothy.

If you have excess heat in the body, I recommend adding a touch of raw honey or maple syrup before you shake to sweeten.

For a lighter and more savory version, you can add a pinch of rock salt, dry roasted crushed cumin, fresh ginger and fresh cilantro before you shake.

ENJOY!

"There are so many gifts that I received from working with Brittany as my Ayurvedic Counselor. She has an amazing ability to see people and was able to help me express exactly what I was feeling but had no idea how to articulate. From the big life themes to the slight yet profound adjustments to the way I live my life, I am feeling more vibrant and healthy than ever! I feel blessed to have worked with Brittany and strongly recommend her."

"In just a few sessions, Brittany helped me feel healthier, calmer, and more alive. She has the warmest heart and spirit of anyone you'll ever meet plus she gives you helpful information so you get the results that you want. She really listened to my needs and helped me create changes that worked for me and continue to work for me to this day. Throughout all of our sessions, I felt very taken care of and listened to!"
